candied yams
If you are not a good cook and have been asked to bring something other than the rolls you have been bringing for the last 10 years, this is the perfect recipe for you. It's easy and delicious.
This is truly one of my favorite Thanksgiving dishes. The browned marshmallows on top make the yams almost taste like smores. Okay, that's a stretch, but it is yummy.
This recipe is from my grandmother’s kitchen and could very well be the same one that is on the side of the yams can. I have no idea, but I have changed it a bit from her original recipe so hopefully it is a little different and they won’t come chasing after me screaming FRAUD.
1 40 ounce can yams
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup syrup from can (discard the rest)
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon corn starch
1/2 cup butter
1/2 pecans chopped
marshmallows
Place yams in a shallow baking dish. Combine syrup from can, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, butter and corn starch in a sauce pan and bring to boil. Stir often until sauce thickens. Pour sauce over yams. Place baking dish in over and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes. Once cooked, cover with large marshmallows and return to oven until browned.
