lemon and thyme beer can chicken

Beer Can Chicken (If you dare)

one whole chicken (4 - 6 pounds)
1/2 stick of butter, melted
one can of beer, room temperature
juice of one lemon
8 cloves of garlic, peeled
one bunch of thyme
two tablespoons salt
two teaspoons pepper

Clean out inside of chicken and rinse.  Combine salt and pepper in a small bowl.  Use half of the salt and spread all over inside of chicken.  Put bunch of thyme inside chicken.  Cover the outside of the chicken with butter and sprinkle with remaining salt and pepper.  Empty half of the beer out.  Slowly pour lemon juice into beer can, it will fizz and overflow if you go too fast.  Drop garlic into can.  Place chicken  cavity over the beer can.  Place chicken on the grill over INDIRECT medium heat.  Cook for one and a quarter to one and a half hours.  Chicken breast should be 170 degrees.
